Bangladesh was all out for 58 after 18.5 overs. Only Junaid Siddique, out on 25, and Mohammad Ashraful, caught on 11, reached double figures for the co-hosts. South Africa vs West Indies Cricket World Cup 2011 Preview

NEW DELHI is ready to welcome guests from South Africa and West Indies for the seventh match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, which will be played at Delhi's historical Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Thursday, February 24. Both South Africa and West Indies, who feature in the group 'B' teams, will start their ICC Cricket World cup 2011 campaign with this match.

South Africa, one of the strongest contenders of the world's biggest cricketing event, have never won tournament. Whereas, West Indies lifted the Cricket World Cup trophy last time 32 years back in the 1979 World Cup.

In the 50 ODIs played between South Africa and West Indies, the Proteas have won 37 times and the Caribbeans tasted victory 12 times. Both the teams had met four times in the Cricket World Cup and won two times each, and interestingly, all four matches have been won by the team batting first.

South African captain Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis and Jacques Kallis can change the match any time in their favour. In the bowling department Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe can destroy any batting line-up. South Africans are equally balanced in the fielding department. In the last five matches, the Proteas have won four matches and lost one against India.

Prior to the Cricket World Cup 2011, West Indies won one warm-up match against Kenya by 61 runs and lost to Sri Lanka by four wickets in the second warm-up match. The West Indian batting mainly depends on Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. However, Darren Bravo and Kieron Pollard are very useful players for the side.

Here is the squad of South Africa and West Indies for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011:

South Africa: Graeme Smith (capt), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, AB de Villiers (wk), JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Colin Ingram, Jacques Kallis, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Morne van Wyk (wk).

West Indies: Darren Sammy (Capt), Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith, Sulieman Benn, Nikita Miller, Andre Rusell, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kirk Edwards, Devon Thomas (wk).

This World Cup game will be a day-night encounter and will see the two sides meet in the World Cup cricket games for the fifth time. Both have won two games.

The West Indies team will look to depend on their batsmen to deliver the goods. This will be because the West Indian bowling is not too strong and it will need the likes of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard to strike hard when it really matters.

Of course, the experience of Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will also count for a lot.

South Africa will need to rely on the batting of Hashim Amla, who has been their best batsman in the last one year or so. With Jacques Kallis back from injury, things are looking good for the South Africa side, who will depend on the pair of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel for a win. On opening World Cup warm up days Bangladesh and West Indies win

The first day of the World Cup warm-up games saw Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh cruise to easy wins in their respective games. Sri Lanka crushed Netherlands in a game at SSC in Colombo, West Indies ran home in a reasonably tough game against Kenya while Bangladesh pounded the Canada side to take home a lot of confidence before the start of the World Cup.

Sri Lanka batted first against Netherlands and scored a whopping 351 in their 50 overs. This was mainly possible due to an innings of substance from T Dilshan (78) and because of the valuable support that he got from the other half century-scorers in the team. Thilan Samaraweera, promoted to the number three position got a 60, while Chamara Silva and Chamara apugedera scored 54 and 50 respectively. Strangely enough, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene did not bat in the game.

In reply, Netherlands did not have any chance of crossing over the line and looked deflated from the very beginning. They lost wickets at regular intervals and collapsed to 37/4 at one stage before being rescued by the captain of the day - Bas Zuiderent and Tom de Grooth. Zuiderent made 38 while Grooth scored 76 as the side was taken to a relative position of safety, ending with 195 all out. Dilhara Fernando ran through the tail and ended with a haul of four wickets.

In another game of the World Cup warm-ups, West Indies took on Kenya at the SSC in Colombo. West Indies batted first and after the early trouble that they were in at 65/4, were propelled to a decent total by Ramnaresh Sarwan. Sarwan made a century and ended on 123 off 125 balls while his partnership with Dwayne Bravo (54) ensured that the side had had a decent 253/8 in the 50 overs.

Kenya did have a good enough start to their innings and were 98/1 at one stage. Unfortunately for them, they had used up many overs to get there and in the quest to quell the mounting asking rate, the side was bowled out for 192. Andre Russell bagged four wickets.

In the third game of the day, Canada were bowled out for 112 batting first at Chittagong. Shakib al Hasan had three wickets to his name before Tamim Iqbal raced off to a fantastic 69 to push the side to a nine-wicket win over the Canadians.

The first ODI of the three match series between West Indies and Sri Lanka will be played at the SSC in Sri Lanka. This series was earlier scheduled to be played in November-December last year but was postponed to January because of inclement weather and one hopes that none of the three games will be disrupted. Interestingly, some of the games in the series were to be played at Hambantota but the ICC objected to it given that the rules stipulate that none of the sides can play at venues to be used for the World Cup so close to the tournament. West Indies will use this series to acclimatize to the conditions for the World Cup. They will be led by Darren Sammy with the likes of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard to allow them to get a move on. as compared to that, Sri Lanka will try out their 15 players announced for the World Cup including Chamara Kapugedera and give them an extended run.
