Bangalore: England will have to contend with some explosive batting and a vociferous home crowd when it takes on World Cup favorite and co-host India in a much-awaited Group B match on Sunday.

India, which began the tournament with a comprehensive 87-run victory over Bangladesh in Dhaka, plays their first match on home soil at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with all eyes on its famed batting lineup.

The victory over fellow co-host Bangladesh, seen as revenge for a costly defeat in the last World Cup, came after emphatic wins over defending champion Australia and New Zealand in practice games.

England also won their two practice games against Canada and Pakistan before starting with an unconvincing six-wicket victory over the Netherlands.

England beat the mainly-amateur Dutch side with only eight balls to spare, after conceding 292 runs to the unfancied side.

Pace bowler Stuart Broad said on Friday the Twenty20 world champion would have to bowl and field better in future matches if it hoped perform well.

"We bowled too many short balls, especially with the new ball," said Broad. "Our fielding was also bad, but I won't say that is a worry because we are a good fielding side."

England, which lost 6-1 to Australia in their recent one-day series, is up against the likes of big-hitting batsmen Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan.

Asked what plans England had for a batsman like Sehwag, whose 175 against Bangladesh overshadowed a creditable 100 not out by Virat Kohli, Broad said the aim was to bowl spot on.

"Sehwag is an amazing batsman who has started the World Cup in spectacular fashion. We will try to bowl in areas where he is not too strong and have certain plans for other batsmen," he said.

Broad felt the Indian batsmen needed to be surprised.

"On unhelpful pitches, you have to be unpredictable. But we are not going to bowl too many bouncers, probably only as many as we would to Australia or South Africa," said Broad, who was looking forward to playing in front of a full house.

"We have played here before. It will be an electric atmosphere. We are going to get pumped up by the crowd, but will have to keep emotions in check," said Broad.

England captain Andrew Strauss top scored with 88 against the Netherlands, but it eventually took a 20-ball cameo of 30 runs by Ravi Bopara that ensured a win after some wayward bowling.

India, which rattled up 370-4 against Bangladesh, will also have to tighten its bowling.

Pace bowler Shantakumaran Sreesanth was unimpressive against Bangladesh and India is not sure whether Ashish Nehra will be able to replace him as he is still recovering from a sore back.

India also had a minor worry as Sehwag was hit on the ribs during a practice session on Friday.

He is expected to be fit, as is Yuvraj Singh, who was hit by a Sreesanth beamer during nets on Thursday.

India skipper Dhoni has not been too concerned about injuries coming into the tournament because he has several options in both batting and bowling.

"It is good for the team that so many players are fighting for places in the team," said Dhoni, who has had to keep out the dependable Suresh Raina from the playing XI.

Warm-up Match India Vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2011 on Feb 16

India will take on New Zealand at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, February 16. Both India and New Zealand have won their first warm-up match against Australia and Ireland respectively.

On Sunday, team India had won against Australia in their first warm-up match by 38 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. After batting first, India scored 214 runs in 44.3 overs. At one stage Indians had lost their eight wickets for 128 runs. For the ninth wicket, Yusuf Pathan and R. Ashwin added 49 runs and for the last wicket Ashwin and Nehra added 27 runs. Virender Sehwag was the top scorer, he scored 54 runs.

In reply, Australia were 118/2 at one stage, but the Indian spinners, Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh clinched victory from the jaw of defeat. They shared seven Australians wicket costing mere 46 runs. Ricky Ponting and his team were all-out for 176 runs.

In an another warm-up match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, New Zealand beat Ireland by 32 runs at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur on February 12. New Zealand scored 311/6 in 50 overs with the help of opener Martin Guptill's hundred. Guptill struck 12 fours and three sixes in his 130 runs inning. In reply Ireland were all-out for 279 runs in 49th over. Captain William Porterfield was the leading run getter for his side, scored 72 runs in 74 deliveries.

In the last ODI series between India and New Zealand in November - December 2010, India sweeped the series of five matches 5-0.

ICC World Cup 2011 tickets go on sale amidst clashes

A large number of cricket fans clashed with the police in Bangladesh as they swarmed the banks to buy tickets for the ICC World Cup 2011.The crowd clashed with the police when the bank authorities said that each branch would only sell 500 tickets due to strict scrutiny of buyers’ identification papers.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has made 15,000 tickets available per match for the cricket crazy fans all over the country. The tickets went on sale at 80 branches of the private City Bank and the state-owned Agrani Bank on Sunday.

Only a handful of cricket fans could get hold of the tickets for the event despite many on them lining up in queues since Saturday noon in the cold weather. There were chaotic situations all over the country as the police tried to beat up the crowd in order to disperse them.

The heartbroken fans clashed with the police at Mirpur, Bangabandhu Avenue, Uttara, Dhanmondi, and capital of the country, Dhaka.

The fans included many aggrieved students who retorted to raise slogans against the BCB and International Cricket Council. They vandalised at least eight to ten vehicles in front of the Mirpur branch of the City Bank after which the police intervened.

There were no threatening injuries but a few fans and a photographer had reportedly suffered minor injuries during the protests.

Shah Alam, a police inspector, while talking to a local TV channel said, “They raised slogans and held demonstrations.” However, the inspector maintained that the police calmly dispersed the protesters.

Bangladesh is the co-host of the event along with India and Sri Lanka. The opening match will be held between India and Bangladesh on 19 February at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Bangladesh.

The fans were angered when officials announced that 15,167 tickets would be sold to the public even though the stadium has a seating capacity of over 25,000. The remaining tickets will be reserved for foreign officials and stakeholders.

There are fifty outlets of the City Bank and thirty branches of the Agrani Bank that will be selling around 100,000 tickets for 6 games to be held in Bangladesh.

However, cricket fans were wary of the fact that they might not be able to support their home team in the World Cup due to the limited number of tickets.

The BCB is yet to comment on the availability and mismanagement of the ticket sales.

India tour of South Africa Schedule 2010/11

Before the 2011 ICC World Cup this will be India last chance to brush the area in which they were lacking and they knows it will be tough series for them. They have never won a test series in South Africa and by considering their number one ranking in Test it will be interesting series.

On their 50 days tour, India will play three match test series, one twenty20 international and five match ODI series.

India will start their tour with the warm-up games. The first test match will be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion from December 16^th to 20^th, the 2^nd test match is schedule to be played at Kingsmead, Durban from December 26^th to 30^th while the last match of the series will be played from January 2^nd to January 6^th 2011 at Newlands, Cape Town.

India will then move on to play one off twenty20 international at the FIFA World Cup stadium in Durban. This is the new stadium which was developed to host the FIFA world cup games and is expected attract the biggest crowd to ever attend a cricket match in South Africa. The twenty20 will be played on 9^th January 2011.

Five match ODI series will be played on 12^th, 15^th, 18^th, 21^st and 23^rd January 2011 at Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Centurion respectively.

Hand injury renders Indian opener Gautam Gambhir doubtful for Durban

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was on Saturday rendered a doubtful starter for the second Test against South Africa after injuring his left hand and the team management will take a decision on his participation before the toss on Sunday.

While captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that Zaheer Khan, who missed the first Test in Centurion due to hamstring injury is fit to play, he did admit that Gambhir's injury in the knuckles of his left hand is a concern ahead of the second Test.
"As of now, Zak (Zaheer Khan's nickname) is fit. He has opted out of today's session but he is fit. Gautam has a bit of a niggle in his left hand. He got hit during the last Test. We can only take a call once we receive the formal report from the physio. He batted today also, but he has a bit of swelling," Dhoni told the reporters on the eve of the second Test.
The southpaw looked in utter discomfort during the first innings when South African pacers sorted him out with short-pitched stuff. However Gambhir showed a lot of grit scoring 80 in the second innings.
In case, Gambhir doesn't get fit in time, reserve opener Murali Vijay will be inducted into the playing XI. However it will be a test of character for Vijay who is not known to be too comfortable while playing short pitched stuff.

South Africa Defeats India by Innings and 25 Runs in First Cricket Test

South Africa beat top-ranked India by an innings and 25 runs in their series opening cricket Test at Centurion.
Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn took the remaining two Indian wickets on the final morning to dismiss the touring team for 459 in its second innings. The South Africans had amassed 620-4 declared after skittling India for 136 in its first innings.

Sachin Tendulkar finished on 111 not out after yesterday becoming the first player in 133 years of elite Test cricket to register 50 centuries.
The second Test starts Dec. 26 in Durban before the best- of-three contest concludes in Cape Town from Jan. 2. South Africa has won all four previous home series against India.
