West Indies defeated co-host Bangladesh by 9 wickets in their Group B match at Cricket World Cup

West Indies Beats Bangladesh by 9 Wickets at Cricket World Cup

The West Indies defeated co-host Bangladesh by nine wickets in their Group B match in Dhaka after nine Bangladeshi batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Chris Gayle was 37 not out, combining with Devon Smith, out for 6 runs, and Darren Bravo, 9 not out to achieve the win with 226 balls remaining in the 50-overs match.

Bangladesh was all out for 58 after 18.5 overs. Only Junaid Siddique, out on 25, and Mohammad Ashraful, caught on 11, reached double figures for the co-hosts. Bangladesh’s score was the lowest total ever by a full-member nation in the history of the tournament. Top batsman Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for a duck on the third ball.

The West Indies is now in second place in Group B, behind South Africa, while Bangladesh is in sixth place.

In an earlier Group A match, New Zealand defeated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets as Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill combined for 166 runs.

New Zealand moves to fourth place in Group A, with Zimbabwe in fifth. The top four from two groups of seven teams advance to the quarterfinals of the event, co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The tournament ends April 2.

Nepal qualifies for ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup

Nepali Team enters the finale of ACC U-19 Elite Cup cricket tournament today (Tuesday) by beating Qatar by 6 wickets at AIT Ground in Bangkok. This had opened the doors for Nepali team to global Youth World Cup (ICC U-19 World Cup).

Nepal stole the game and reached the victory target of 114 in 20 overs as Naresh Budayer scored unbeaten 41 and Pradeep Airee hit two sixes.

Nepal will now face Afghanistan (the same country that had beaten Nepal in semifinal, two years ago) in the final at TCG on 10th of February. If won, this will be the fifth time Nepal will win the title.

Brief scorecard: Qatar 113 all out in 47 overs (Saad Khan 26, Omar Istiaq 22*, Rahul BK 4/20, Bhuwan Karki 2/12) lost to Nepal 119 for 4 in 20 overs (Naresh Budayer 41*, Sagar Pun 36, Faljur Khan 19, Pradeep Airee 12*) by 6 wickets.

With all good news, our captain Prithu Baskota has been injured and wouldn’t make it to the finale. He will have to rest for three weeks to heal the ligament he tore during the match.

Well done Nepali Team! You have made all of us proud. The title should be ours now! We wish you all the best for the finale.

England beat Canada in Cricket World Cup warm-up match in Dhaka

KEVIN PIETERSEN will open all hours for England at the World Cup – and believes he will be a hit at the top of the shop.

As England scrambled a 16-run win over no-hopers Canada in their opening warm-up match in Dhaka, Pietersen’s surprise promotion to face the new ball with Andrew Strauss was unveiled as their shock weapon.

From skunk hairstyles to red carpets, little of KP’s career has been subject to the Official Secrets Act. But England kept his latest incarnation under wraps so keenly they did not even try it during the one-day series in Australia.

After chiselling out 24 on a track with less life than a mortuary slab, Pietersen cannot yet claim he has mastered his new role.

And after nearly being embarrassed by big-hitting Canadian Rizwan Cheema, England were grateful for a five-wicket comeback from Stuart Broad and Matt Prior’s feisty 78.

Pietersen’s brief experience of opening includes a century against India’s A team, and his ability to clear the ropes will set him apart from the nudgers and nurdlers on sluggish pitches in India and Bangladesh.
