ICC World Cup 2011 and the Bangladesh Cricket Team

Bangladesh Cricket Board announced their 30-players preliminary squad for the World Cup 2011 co-hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.


Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Imrul Kayes, Junaed Siddique, Roqibul Hassan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Nazmul Hossain, Naeem Islam, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Abdur Razzak, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Shahriar Nafees, Nazimuddin, Shamsur Rahman, Jahurul Islam, Sahagir Hossain, Syed Rasel, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam, Dollar Mahmud, Mohammad Mithun, Nasir Hossain, Shuvagoto Hom Chowdhury, Shabbir, Rahman, Alok Kapali and Enamul Haque are the part of the preliminary squad from the Bangladesh side. These players will participate in the training camp and after that 15-player final squad will be announced.

The overall performance of Bangladeshi side was not so bad in 2010 especially in last couple of series Bangladeshi players gave the tremendous performance. Recently Bangladesh has won two home series against New Zealand and Zimbabwe. The victory of Bangladesh in these two series picks the morale of Bangal tigers at a peak position. Bangladesh will host eight World Cup matches in Dhaka and Chittagong, and will also enjoy the hosting of the opening ceremony of the ICC World Cup 2011 on Feb 17 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city.

In ICC World Cup 2011 teams groups Bangladesh is placed in group “B” where its group neighbors are India, South Africa, England and the West Indies. Netherlands, Ireland. Bangladeshi players will play all of their first round matches on their own land. So there is a good chance for the Bangladeshi team to take the full advantage of their home ground and home crowd and their familiar conditions. Dutch team and the Irish side may be not become so tough enemies of the Asian side but the difficult task is to defeat India, South Africa, England and West Indies. Bangladesh will start the journey towards World Cup by playing match against India on February 19 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

There is no doubt in this that Bangladesh have to face the challenge of four stronger teams but the Bangladeshi couch and players are hopeful that they will try to give their best performance in the mega event and the audience should be ready for the upsets.3DM2HQ3BP5C7
